Having worked in both state and independent schools in the United Kingdom, my professional journey brought me to China in 2018, where I have been fortunate to work across four AISL Harrow schools: in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen Qianhai and now as Headmaster at Harrow Haikou.
My journey is evidence of the value of being part of the AISL family, the ability to professionally develop, grow and seek opportunities across the group. I have benefited immensely from being able to collaborate and learn from colleagues across the AISL Harrow network. It is an environment that encourages curiosity and ambition, while also providing a strong sense of community and support.
Here in Haikou, that sense of community is especially evident. Just as Hainan is renowned for its warm, tropical climate and environment, Harrow Haikou is known for the warmth of its people. From the moment families and staff join our school, they become part of a welcoming and supportive community where relationships matter. Our parents are deeply engaged in school life, our colleagues are collaborative and generous in spirit, and together we create an environment where both children and adults can thrive.

For me, what stands out most across the AISL Harrow Group is the strength and quality of Early Years provision. This is underpinned by a unique and bespoke Early Years curriculum, rooted in research, informed by best practice, and centred on developing the whole child. Through a strong focus on how young children learn, we nurture the confidence, curiosity, resilience, and independence that lay the foundations for lifelong learning as future Harrovians.
Harrow has a reputation for academic excellence, but what really stood out to me was the school’s commitment to character education and creative thinking. It’s a place that doesn’t just value results, but also the journey. As an educator who is passionate about process and reflection, that really resonated with me. Working at school has been brilliant! The students are thoughtful and enthusiastic, and the staff and wider community have been incredibly welcoming. There’s a real sense of purpose here, and it’s inspiring to be part of that.

Having worked within the Harrow family for several years, I value how its principles of leadership, service, and fellowship are lived through daily school life, creating an environment where students and teachers alike continue to grow. I believe education is about much more than academic results, and that sport has a vital role in developing confidence, resilience, teamwork and leadership.
Now in my fifth year at Harrow Haikou, my journey has been incredibly rewarding. I joined as a PE teacher and have since progressed to Director of Sport. I am proud to have helped expand sporting opportunities, develop teams and programmes, and see our students represent Harrow with pride, both in China and internationally. I am excited for what we can achieve together in the years ahead.
I was attracted to Harrow because of its reputation for academic excellence and its dedication to developing well-rounded individuals. I value the balance between strong academic achievement and a genuine appreciation for the creative arts. I was also excited by the opportunity to join an international community where students and staff learn from a wide range of cultures, perspectives, and experiences. I have really enjoyed my time here so far. Everyone has been incredibly supportive, and there is a strong sense of community throughout the school. It is a privilege to be part of such a wonderful school.
